Gender Bias in Healthcare: Why Women's Health Training Needs to Change, with Dr Carys Sonnenberg & Dr Angela Sharma
24.10.2026 | 1 t. 2 min.Women’s Health Made Easy: The GPs Closing the Gaps in Medical Training and Women’s Healthcare
Today we’re joined by two incredible guests who between them bring decades of experience as GPs, menopause specialists and sexologists.
They’ve written the book that probably should have existed in medical training for the last fifty years.
Dr Angela Sharma is a Notting Hill GP who leads her own NHS menopause service and supports women with everything from heart disease to sexual health.
Dr Carys Sonnenberg, who some of you will remember from her episode on metabolic syndrome in menopause, is a BMS-registered menopause specialist, NHS GP and founder of Rowena Health.
Together with Dr Angela Wright, they’ve written Women’s Health Made Easy, a practical clinical guide for GPs and primary care teams that every woman should probably read too.
Today we spill the tea on what happens when the gaps in medical training meet the gaps in women’s healthcare, and what these three did about it.
We ask the questions about the book and why it needed to exist:
• Women’s health has been made complex by decades of under-research, under-teaching and historical bias. When did each of you first realise something was missing?
• What was mandatory in women’s health during your training, and where were the biggest gaps?
• What does it look like in a consultation when you’re managing high-impact, intimate care with limited formal training?
• Is it getting better? Are medical schools doing more?
• Has social media changed how patients and doctors interact, with more information, and sometimes misinformation?
• After the Renewed Women’s Health Strategy in April, we spoke to Wes Streeting about misogyny in healthcare. Do you see clinicians denying it exists in practice? They’re the doctors who need this book most.
• On the patients behind the book, whose stories stayed with you?
There’s a celebration as we have news on the 2nd anniversary of the Devon NHS Menopause service. We also spill the tea about our week and there’s never a dull moment. Stick around for some beautiful inspiration to carry you through the week.

Strength Training, Protein & Collagen: Menopause Myths Busted with Jane Wake
With so much life-hacking, quick fixes and outright lies flying around on social media and in marketing, it’s hard to know what to believe, so we needed an expert to help us cut through it.
Our guest has 35 years in sports science, is one of the most respected names in UK fitness, and has spent her career backing everything she says with evidence, most recently training doctors on what they should actually be telling midlife women about exercise.
Today we spill the tea with Jane Wake on the truth about strength training, protein, collagen, and separating what’s real from what’s just noise.
Whether you’re in perimenopause, menopause or beyond, this one is for you.
In this episode, we ask Jane:
What’s the worst myth about strength training you keep hearing, even from so-called experts?
Where is most of this misinformation coming from?
How do you tell the difference between solid evidence and a wellness trend?
What does the evidence actually say about strength training and menopause, bones, muscle and hormones?
How much do we really need to do, and how often, to make a difference?
Is there such a thing as “too late to start”?
Are there any risks people should be aware of?
Protein is a buzzword right now. What’s the truth about protein needs for women in midlife, and are most of us eating enough?
Collagen: worth the hype, or just another wellness trend?
Which other supplements or claims would you like to bust?
If someone has never picked up a weight, where should they start?
Can strength training be worked into things we’re already doing, rather than being “one more thing” on the list?
What’s one thing you wish every midlife woman knew about her body right now?
We also catch up on our busy week, including Jinty going to the Frida Kahlo exhibition.
Stick around for some beautiful inspiration to carry you through the week.

This week we spill the tea with Amy Simpson, a midlife entrepreneur and co-founder of Nudi Spray. She wasn't looking to start a business. She was just sick of scrubbing glue marks off her skin every time she peeled off an HRT patch.
A dancer turned florist turned entrepreneur, Amy shares what it actually takes to pivot in midlife, and why you don't need to feel "business-shaped" to build something that works.
In this episode we ask Amy:
How did your dancing career start, and what was touring life like? Any favourite celeb stories?
Was stepping back from dancing to raise your family a difficult decision?
How did your eye for design develop through the florist and visual merchandising chapters?
What was your own experience of menopause, and what was the moment the HRT patch glue became "there has to be a better way"?
What did the learning curve look like when you're not a "business-shaped person", and what's been the hardest part of building a business from scratch?
What did the Davina McCall call mean for you?
What's it been like watching Nudi spread through word of mouth and social, and what's next?
We are still on a high from our book launch, we talk a bit more about that and Jinty has found some interesting research on placenta’s and an erection after prostate cancer…!
Stick around for some beautiful inspiration to carry you through the week.

Today we are Spilling the Tea with Dr. Ravi Gill, a health psychologist who has spent over 15 years helping people navigate anxiety, depression and the mental load of physical health conditions, from early intervention services to older adult NHS care. She also trains organisations on mental health awareness and crisis management, and volunteers supporting people in emotional distress.
Today we're talking anxiety: what it is, what it feels like, and why perimenopause can turn the volume up.
In this episode:
1. What anxiety actually is: generalised anxiety vs "normal" worry, and the line between everyday stress and something that needs support.
2. What anxiety feels like in the body and where people notice it first. Many women are thought to have cardiac or gut issues when it's anxiety (or vice versa), so how can we tell the difference?
3. What’s happening in the brain when we're anxious, and why anxiety latches onto specific worries like health, money and relationships even when it's really about something broader.
4. Perimenopause and anxiety: why anxiety can appear for the first time, or come back with a vengeance.
5. What to do in the moment when anxiety spikes, plus the go-to grounding techniques Ravi actually recommends.
6. What does real progress looks like, whether anxiety can be managed long term, and when to see your GP rather than self-manage.
We are still buzzing from our book launch and chat about the night and the incredible people who joined us.
Jinty's found an interesting article on what palliative care Drs and death doulas can tell us about 'Living well'!

Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. - Today we're spilling the tea on how AI is affecting women, work, and happiness. Our guest is Giselle Goodwin, a self-help author, former business owner, and the woman behind Can Women Really Have It All? A Happiness Handbook for Working Mothers.
But don't let the "self-help" label fool you, Giselle's approach isn't about "finding your inner goddess." It's honest, it's grounded in research, and it's backed by a PhD in women, work and wellbeing that she went back to university to complete after twenty years of running her own businesses. She's spent years asking one deceptively simple question: how can life actually be better for women?
In this episode we talk about:
• The "having it all" myth, the promise the 1980s sold women, and whether it ever delivered
• How flexibility, hybrid working and micro-shifting can quietly become a trap for women at work
• The basics of how AI is already affecting women's jobs, and which sectors are most at risk
• Why AI's gender bias matters from AI safety and regulation to non-consensual AI-generated images of women and girls
• Why Giselle calls the impact of AI on women the next "she-demic," and how worried we should be
• The domestic gap nobody talks about and the research showing that when men do more at home, women are less depressed, arguments drop, and divorce risk halves
• The three things Giselle would change tomorrow in policy, culture and technology to make work genuinely work for women
Plus, we catch up on our week (we've been gadding off to the cinema), and this week's book club pick is a shameless plug, t's our very own book, Tackling Gender Bias in the Healthcare System: What Patients' Stories Teach Us About Implementing Systemic Change, out 21 September 2026!
And stick around to the end for some beautiful inspiration to carry you through the week.
